The author in 1934, having just returned from an extended trip to China, received first-hand information of one of the most important developments facing the political and economic world today. Books about Soviet Russia have been countless, but no writer, with perhaps the exception of Agnes Smedley, had dealt with Soviet China. Yet the fact remains that there is a large area of Central China which is directly under the control of the Communist Party of China, there is a Chinese Red Army which, despite its lack of equipment, has been amazingly successful against the armies of Chiang-Kai Shek, and a workers government has been set up and is spreading rapidly. The Chinese Soviets carries an appendix which contains the Constitution and the Land and Labor Laws of the Chinese Soviet Republic, a number of documents issued by the Nanking government in connection with the attempt to eradicate the Communists, and the report of Mao Tse-tung, the President of the Central Executive Committee of the Chinese Soviet Republic, before the Second National Congress of Soviets held on January 22, 1934.
